Using the Coffer

Deposit, claim, withdraw. Three actions, each with one timing rule attached.

Before you start: connect your wallet, hold a veLUTE lock (make one here), and keep a little ETH for gas.

1. Deposit

Open Coffer and press Deposit.

  1. Pick which lock to deposit. The dialog lists every veLUTE lock in your wallet that is free to deposit, with its size and value.

  2. No lock yet? Switch to the Lock LUTE tab in the same dialog and make one. It lands ready to deposit.

  3. Confirm. Your lock is folded into the bloc, and depositing counts as its vote for the epoch.

What changes immediately: your lock counts at permanent weight, it starts earning from the current week, and it reads as empty on chain (see below).

Deposit any time except the hour either side of the Thursday 00:00 UTC flip. The Voter rejects both deposits and withdrawals in that hour; the app disables the button and tells you when it reopens.

Any term works. The Coffer counts every lock at permanent weight whatever its remaining term, so a 26-week lock and a permanent one earn exactly the same. A shorter lock just risks expiring before you get around to depositing it.

2. Watch your position

The banner at the top of the Coffer page is your position in four numbers:

What it is

In the Coffer

Your veLUTE, its value, and your share of the whole bloc

Claimable now

The INDEX credited to you, waiting in the reserve

Compounding

The LUTE locked onto your position so far

Earning

Your combined rate, and what it works out to per year at that rate

Each is on a different clock, which is why they are four numbers and not one total.

3. Claim your INDEX

Press Claim INDEX on your lock. A confirmation tells you exactly what you are trading away before anything is sent.

The rule: the LUTE leg is paid on INDEX left unclaimed. Taking yours out stops it earning for the rest of the week, so you give up your share of that week's LUTE round. Your lock stays in the Coffer and keeps voting either way.

Claims are open Monday 00:00 to Thursday 00:00 UTC. In the other four days the week's INDEX is held in the reserve, dripping for everyone attached.

4. Withdraw

Press Withdraw on your lock, in the same Monday-to-Thursday window.

What you get back:

  • Your lock, as a fresh 26-week lock, holding your original LUTE plus all the LUTE compounded onto it.

  • A permanent lock comes back non-permanent. Re-enable it from the Lock view if you want it permanent again.

  • Any unclaimed INDEX is not paid out. It is parked for your wallet, still in the reserve, and claimed separately.

Claim before you withdraw

If you have INDEX waiting, claim it first and save yourself a transaction. If you withdraw without claiming, the Coffer page shows a parked INDEX row with its own claim button. Parked INDEX earns no LUTE, since the lock that was weighting it has left, and it follows the same Monday-to-Thursday window as any other claim.

Depositing again folds any parked INDEX back into your new position automatically.

Things that surprise people

Why my lock reads as empty

A lock in the Coffer reads as empty on chain, and block explorers will show it that way. Nothing is lost:

  • Your veLUTE is folded into the Coffer's managed NFT, which is what votes.

  • Your INDEX sits in the Coffer's reserve and is credited to you in the ledger.

  • Your LUTE is locked into the managed NFT and written back onto your lock when you withdraw.

The figures on the Coffer page come from that ledger, which is where they live until you take them out.

Merging a deposited lock

Merging into a lock that is in the Coffer works, but only outside the four-day window. It is not a claim: your unclaimed INDEX and the LUTE weight behind it survive the merge. Inside the window it is refused.

Adding to a deposited lock

Adding LUTE to a lock that is already in the Coffer is allowed (unlike extend, permanent and withdraw, which the escrow refuses while it is in). The extra veLUTE joins your position and earns from the moment it lands.

One exception: if the week has flipped but the operator has not funded it yet, a top-up waits for that fund before it starts earning. It cannot be paid against a week it was not part of.
